From An Noor to Now

On 23 October 2011 the Australian Lebanese Historical Society of Victoria held a function at the Northcote Town Hall entitled From An Noor to NowThe program looked at Australian-Lebanese newspapers with a special focus on An Noor, a journal published from 1963-1967 by a group of Australian Lebanese Community leaders and activists.Dr Trevor Batrouney, President of ALHSV, held a conversation with Mr Najib Kurban and Mr Deeb El-Hage, who were two of the original editors of An Noor

The session remembered with respect the efforts of these people, especially Mr Rudolph Abou-Khater and Mr Joseph Batrouney, who have since passed away.

The second half of the session was chaired by Mr Salem Haddad, ALHSV Community Liaison Manager, who held a conversation with Mr Elie Naddaf from An Noor and Mr Fouad El-Hage, an historian who has written a book on Australian-Lebanese media.

The Consul-General for Lebanon, Mr Henri Castoun  and the Mayor of Darebin, Cr Diana Asmar ,   both addressed the gathering and were most complimentary of the work of the ALHSV and of all those who have served the Australian-Lebanese community through publications.  Cr Asmar was then presented with a plaque in grateful recognition of her support for the ALHSV.
